Welcome to River Within
Let this be your invitation to return to yourself and bring more flow into your life.
Tucked along the tranquil French River, River Within is more than a retreat, it’s a seasonal pause, a deep exhale, and a homecoming. You’ll be welcomed into a space where the rhythm is slower, the air is pine-scented, and time feels generous again.
Here, nature is your co-facilitator. The river teaches presence and flow. The forest offers steadiness. Each moment is designed to help you soften, reset, and reconnect.

A life with calm, clarity and connection.
Whether you arrive carrying questions, fatigue, or simply a longing for something quieter, you’ll find space to meet yourself with gentleness. Through movement, ritual, nourishing food, shared stories, and solitude, this retreat becomes both a sanctuary and a catalyst.
This is your time. To rest. To listen. To flow.
What to Expect as a Participant
Each day offers a rich mix of meaningful experiences, forest walks, riverside rituals, group circles, sound healing, nature art creation and creative expression. You’ll have space for both solitude and connection, with everything offered as an invitation rather than a prescription.
This isn’t a performance-based retreat. It’s not about doing more or achieving a goal. It’s about allowing yourself to land, fully and gently, in the present moment.
Our time together is deeply grounded in Nordic principles like hygge (connection), friluftsliv (outdoor life), lagom (balance), sisu (resilience), and njuta (savouring). These values shape not only what we do, but how we do it, with presence, rhythm, and care.
Whether you’re stepping into a canoe, creating art from the river’s flow, or watching stars flicker above the pines, you’ll feel held by the land and the people around you.

A Day at River Within– Sample Flow
- 7:30 AM – Silent cottage morning
Wake slowly to the sounds of the river, with a fresh breakfast hamper delivered right to your door. Sip coffee or tea on your screened porch or simply let the stillness of the landscape hold you. - 8:30 AM – Guided movement by the river
A nourishing, water-inspired practice. Gentle yet powerful, this morning flow connects body, breath, and rhythm. - 10:00 AM – Voyageur canoe journey
We paddle together in a traditional Voyageur canoe along the historic Mattawa River, tracing the paths once travelled by Indigenous peoples and early French-Canadian traders. A slow, steady rhythm carries us downstream. - 11:30 AM – Landing at Five Finger Rapids
Upon arrival, you’ll have space to wander, journal, sketch, or simply sit quietly among the rocks and trees. Let the river’s movement reflect your own.
- 1:00 PM – Return to the lodge, lunch and rest
After a return paddle, we gather for a shared midday meal, followed by space for personal rest. Stretch out in a hammock, sketch by the shore, or dip your toes in the lake.
- 4:00 PM – River Flow Art Ritual with Anna Wilson
This intuitive painting session invites you to explore internal flow and release through movement, water, and colour. Guided but unstructured, it’s a creative exploration of what’s ready to surface or soften.
- 5:30 PM – Free time or optional forest trail walk
Wander the Lodge’s private forest paths, enjoy a cedar-scented sauna, cool off in the lake, or simply rest in your cottage. This is your time. - 7:00 PM – Barbecue dinner on the private island
We gather together on a secluded island for a fire-cooked, slow meal. Surrounded by water and good company, we close the day with gratitude, conversation, and sunset views.
