About The Lodge
The resort is made up of fifteen cottages ranging from studios to 1, 2 and 3-bedrooms, all stylishly and thoughtfully designed. Each rental cottage is equipped with en-suite showers and toilets, screened porches, handcrafted wooden furniture and comfortable king or queen-sized beds. Some cottages have a full kitchen and wood-burning stove. Both the main Lodge and the cottages blend the ambiance and craftsmanship of yesteryear with the ecological sensitivity required to protect nature's bounty.
The Main Lodge The Lodge at Pine Cove is nestled on 2,600 feet of waterfront between picturesque Wolseley Bay and Pine Cove Bay. It is a spectacular 6,500 sq. ft. lodge that was completely renovated and rebuilt in 2001-2003. Set in a very private cove that is a swimmers' paradise, the new Lodge at Pine Cove features soaring cathedral ceilings, three stone fireplaces, a library, and a lounge overlooking Wolseley Bay. There are two dining areas serviced by a top class kitchen, an elegant bar with a fine wine list, and conference facilities for visiting corporate guests.
Additional amenities include appliances and barbeques, laundry, docking facilities, housekeeping services and a private sandy beach, perfect for children's play and basking in the sun.
LocationThe Lodge at Pine Cove is located near the small community of Noelville on the French River, a 105-km (66-mile) heritage waterway Provincial Park that winds its way through a maze of channels and bays from lake Nipissing to Georgian Bay (Lake Huron). For many centuries this river was a major aboriginal trade route. When the Europeans arrived, they used the French River to gain access to the Great Lakes and Canada's and America's interior. French explorer Samuel de Champlain paddled it in 1615. During Canada's fur trade era, the river could be a swift one-day to 1.5-day downriver run for the famous voyageurs and Voyageur Country.
» MAP & DIRECTIONS
The Lodge at Pine Cove is a unique combination of vacation resort and shared-ownership cottages on Canada's French River, a vast system of waterways, consisting of rivers, lakes and bays, deltas, cliffs and beaches, all surrounded by a seemingly endless forest. The French river system has both the excitement of rapids and the peace of broad stretches of flat water, some nearly four kilometres wide and dotted with islands just waiting to be explored. And here amid this beauty The Lodge and The Cottages sit, surrounded by the pink granite and the tall white pines of some of the world's most beautiful natural landscapes. Travel the waterways once used by famous voyageurs on your way to the ancient Dokis First Nation's lands of lakes and rivers on your weekend escape.
History of the Lodge The fascinating history of the lodge dates back to 1935 when the original owner, Gene Rioux, built it when Pine Cove was only accessible by water. The Rioux lodge was a masterpiece of design and setting, and the Rioux family continued to successfully own and manage the business until 1949. The old lodge burnt down in 1965 and was subsequently rebuilt, but never in a manner that approached the glory of the original structure. Finally, the Strachan family, the current owners, purchased it and rebuilt the entire resort. Today, The Lodge at Pine Cove is an elegant waterfront oasis in the 1930s style that combines a magnificent setting with comfort and excellent service; offering women, men and families a unique adventure holiday full of new experiences, learning and relaxing, all in a safe and comfortable environment.

What can you do at The Lodge? The French River is a magnificent fishery and The Lodge at Pine Cove caters to those wanting to fish, be they beginner or expert. Guests looking for other pursuits will find programs and facilities that cater to many other interests, such as, Native North American culture; canoeing and kayaking, and the spinning and natural dyeing of cloth. Want more? Then try fly-fishing or guided fishing, or learn to paint, take yoga, or simply take a hike though our magnificent forests. We also created a library that contains a fine collection of books on Canadian heritage so we are fully prepared even if all you want to do is sit in the sun and read. Whatever you choose to do, all of our programs are designed and led by experts - experts in their field and experts in enjoyment.
We are not part of a hotel or resort chain. The Lodge was rebuilt by the Strachan family, who own and operate the business, ably assisted by excellent staff and suppliers from the local area, just the way it was done over 70-years ago by Gene Rioux and his family.
The Cottages
Private cottages make up all our accommodation and each has been
individually designed to fit into its landscape. The cottages where
built between 2003 and 2005 and are outstanding in terms of
craftsmanship, simple but elegant, and the furnishings consist of very
comfortable custom beds and seating. Gabbeh hand dyed carpets grace the
living room floors and french doors open onto fully screened porches
that overlook the water. These Ontario rental cottagesallow you both privacy and comfort in a most beautiful setting.
Each cottage has a bedroom, living room, washroom (toilet, shower and hand-sink) and screened porch. In studio cottages, the bedroom and living area are combined. The furniture is all of excellent design and quality, from the handmade Captain's beds with very comfortable mattresses to the living room furniture and from handmade wool carpets and Adirondack-style furniture for the screened porches. As well, king-sized beds split to make two double beds. The interior finishing is in solid natural Cedar and White Pine. All cottages enjoy French doors leading to a screened in porch and magnificent views of the water and forest.
Every cottage is equipped with a small fridge, coffee/tea maker, towels, face cloths, soap, hair dryers, toilet paper, sheets, duvet, pillows; daily maid service is provided. One, two and three-bedroom cottages all have a lovely, cast-iron wood stove.
